Best Dog Park in Naperville: Greene Valley Dog Park Wins the Friday Poll!
Naperville · Community Photo
Naperville has no shortage of places to bring a dog, which makes Greene Valley's win in this week's Best Dog Park/Dog Rec Facility poll all the more meaningful. Tucked inside the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's Greene Valley preserve, the off-leash area has earned a following among local dog owners who want more than a chain-link pen — and the community vote made clear that it's delivering exactly that.
The Setting Is the Whole Point
Greene Valley Forest Preserve spans 1,388 acres and is home to more than 540 native plant species and 370 kinds of native animals, making it one of the most botanically diverse sites in DuPage County. The off-leash dog area sits within that landscape as a fully fenced 16-acre space — large enough that a dog can actually run, explore, and burn energy rather than loop a small enclosure. Separate sections for small and large dogs keep the dynamic safe and manageable for pets of all sizes and temperaments.
What to Know Before You Go
A valid Forest Preserve District permit is required for each dog brought into the off-leash area, and proof must be carried during the visit. The area follows standard preserve hours — one hour after sunrise to one hour after sunset — with one exception: Wednesdays the off-leash area is closed until 10 a.m. for routine maintenance. Parking for the dog area is on the east side of Greene Road, 0.25 mile south of Hobson Road. Dogs on leashes under 10 feet are welcome throughout the rest of the preserve as well, so a visit can easily extend into the trails, picnic areas, and the 190-foot scenic overlook that frames views of the Chicago skyline on clear days.
